HAZY SHADE OF WINTER 3 - PART 6

“See What’s Become of me…”

Previously...

Cameron ignored Blair and yelled for his butler telling him to get the nanny up to watch Samantha. As he headed for the door, Blair grabbed his arm, “Don’t do this Cameron. Don’t go after Téa.”
“Sorry Blair, I can’t do that,” he said.
“You’re a fool Cam if you think Téa will choose you over Todd,” said Blair.
Cameron said nothing, shook Blair off, and walked out.

Rodi’s…

Roseanne fumbled through her purse for change as she stood in front of the pay phone in Rodi’s female bath room.

“Will ya’ hurry up…? I gotta’ make a phone call..”

Roseanne ignored the girl behind her and held up a quarter. At least she thought it was a quarter. It was tough for her eyes to focus. She hadn’t wanted Téa to drink alone and now, unfortunately, she was feeling the effects of the alcohol she had drank. She put the quarter in the pay phone and dialed praying he would be home. It rang. Once. Twice.

“What?!”

“Todd?”

“Roseanne? What do you want?

Roseanne rolled her eyes, “You gottsa come to Rodi’s…”

”Have you been drinking?”

“Yep. And so hash Téa. Look, come to Rodi’s and take her home…” slurred Roseanne.

”You’re kidding me right?”

“No. C’Mon Todd….”

”Don’t c’mon me. How did you and Téa end up at Rodi’s anyway? I thought Téa was up in Maine…”

“Shut up Todd! Téa told me about her little dalliance with Cammmmeron and how she told you about it. She’s like…miserable. She’s like…I dunno…on this mission to…”

“Will you hurry up?” came a female voice from behind Roseanne.

“SHUT UP BITCH!” yelled Roseanne, covering the phone with her hand.

”What?”

“Looks Todd, I’ve never seen her so hell benth on punishing herself. Just get down her and take her home…”

There was silence on the phone.

“Todd? You there?”

”Yeah. I’ll be there in a few…” said Todd, ”Is Téa drunk?”

“She’s tanked.”

”Sounds like you are too…”

“I’m working on it.

“Look bitch, will you hurry up? I gotta’ call my pimp!!”

Roseanne spun around, “Can it you slut!!”

She exchanged dirty looks with the girl in back of her but when she went back to the phone, the line was dead. She flashed the phone a drunk smile and walked into a stall to pee.

“Bitch. It’s about time you got off the phone…”

Roseanne stumbled back to the booth she was sharing with Téa after going to the bathroom. Roseanne was starting to really feel the effects of the alcohol. She was really light headed and happy. She looked at Téa who had a very stupid grin on her face and she knew Téa was drunk.

“Did I tells you about the time…” started Téa.

“No,” said Roseanne letting her eyes wander, “Don’t you thinks we should go home before wes get too sloshed to call a cab?”

Téa got a blank look on her face, “Home? What home? Todds pretty much kicked me out…”

Roseanne rolled her eyes, “Hows do you know? You said he wasn’t home when you got there…”

“Oh I got the message. Loud and clear…” slurred Téa.

“Wells you can always comes back to my apartment,” said Roseanne picking her fingernails. She drunkenly paused and looked up, “What message?”

“Todd doesn’t wants me no more…” Téa lamented.

“Hows do you know? You haven’t seen him since when? Your big confession? He’s just trying to deals with your screw up. Like you…” said Roseanne fighting the alcohol and trying to articulate herself.

“Todd? Todd doesn’t deal with jealously and betrayal well…” said Téa through glassy eyes.

“Neither do you Téa,” said Roseanne.

“Yeah, well,” said Téa, “Maybe it’s genetic…”

Roseanne began laughing, “Genetic? Yous gonna’ blame your mother for everything wrong in your life again?!”

“Nah…” said Téa leaning back against the wall of the booth, “This was pure unadulterated Téa Delgado at her finest…”

“You’re still gonna’ hate it in the morning,” said Roseanne.

“Yeah. But I don’t feel it NOW,” grinned Téa.

Roseanne sighed.

“Téa?”

Téa looked up and Cameron stood over her. Téa swallowed. Roseanne crossed her arms, a bit perturbed that Cammmmeroon the rich dude showed up.

“I didn’t think you’d come here after I left you,” said Cameron looking down at her into the booth.

“Who knew?” said Téa looking a bit preoccupied. She was glad to see him.

Cameron sat down in the booth next to Téa. Téa drunkenly smiled at him.

“Hey! No one asked you to join us,” said Roseanne defensively. She was nervous knowing Todd was on his way.

“Let me take you home Téa,” said Cameron.

Téa just blankly started at him, “Nah… I don’t think that’s a goods idea…” started Téa looking down at the table.

“Let me take care of you, please?” he pleaded softly.

“She ain’t your wife…” said Roseanne crossing her arms, wishing Todd was here all ready.

Cameron shot Roseanne a look that would freeze water, “Well, then smarty where is the man who is suppose to take care of her? Where’s the man who loves her?”

“Todd’s not here…” said Téa sadly.

Roseanne glanced at the door but didn’t see Todd yet. She looked at the table and began taping her fingers on the table as if annoyed. Especially now that Cameron was here.

Cameron turned his attention back to Téa. He slowly began to rub her shoulder with his hand and leaned into her.

“Téa…Téa…I hate seeing you like this. You’re hurt. So hurt. And in pain. Let me help you…” he whispered.

Téa looked up into his eyes and Cameron began to run his fingers through her hair. Roseanne couldn’t believe just how bold he was with Téa. And Téa certainly had no wits about her in her current condition.

Téa knew she couldn’t think straight. She looked up into Cameron’s face. Studying him as best she could. She could feel his hand on her, touching her, caressing her. It was soothing and comforting but alarm bells were going off in the back of her brain telling her that encouraging him was to further endanger her marriage.

“Cameron…I don’t think…” she started.

He leaned into her, ignoring the sweet smell of the alcohol, “Let me into your world…Let’s be real parents to Samantha…”

Roseanne couldn’t make out what he had said and looked up disgusted. Todd was standing in the entranceway. He turned around and walked out.

“I’ll be back,” muttered Roseanne, bolting out of the booth, “I need some air.”

“Sure,” muttered Téa.

Roseanne ran out of the establishment and saw Todd opening his car door.

“Todd! Wait! Don’t go!” yelled Roseanne approaching the passenger side of the car.

“Why?”

“Go in there and take Téa home. Please? Give her some hopes okay? She needs that desperately now…” said Roseanne emotionally.

“I don’t want to take her to our house. Not in her…condition…” said Todd.

“Then take her to my apartment. Todd look, if you don’t go in there NOW you’ll take away her hopes and you guys will be through…” said Roseanne.

Todd sighed. He didn’t want to do that. He leaned over the car and put his arms on the roof. Roseanne on the other side, imitated his gesture.

“You want me to go in there and make a fool outta’ myself?”

“No. I wants you to go in there and be a concerned husband and take care of your drunk wife…” said Roseanne.

Todd made a face. He felt like he was put in an impossible position but even he wanted hope for his marriage. He got up off the car and walked back into Rodi’s.

“Cameron, look, I think you should leave me alone tonight…” said Téa backing away from his rather forward attempts to touch her.

“Téa…no…don’t…”

“Leave her alone. Stop trying to glom onto my wife. Back off Cammy…” came Todd’s voice. He stood over the booth, his arms crossed and he looked downright angry. His eyes found Téa but she glanced away, ashamed to look into his.

Cameron slid out and got into Todd’s face, “You made it quite clear to her that you could care less about her…”

“What goes on between me and MY wife is none of your business,” said Todd.

Todd pushed Cameron aside, reached down and grabbed Téa’s hand, pulling her out of the booth. Brazenly, he walked out of Rodi’s, hand in hand with her, took her to his car, and drove off.

Téa couldn’t believe it. Todd had come to her and she was drunk! She leaned her head on the headrest of the seat, excited that she was in Todd’s car with him. Excited that there was hope for them.
