I TAKE THE DICE - PART FOUR

PREVIOUSLY

“Maybe – when we have our next kid – you know – we’ll have another girl. This way, we’ll be even – 3 guys, 3 girls…” said Todd.
“You’re not in a rush, are you Todd?” asked Téa playfully.
“Nah. We can wait a bit,” said Todd grinning at her.
Téa leaned over and they shared a tender kiss.

**********************************************************************************************************

September 2001…

It was early morning and Téa was awakened by kisses. Kisses on her neck. She felt his hair on her skin and his hand on her hip. She closed her eyes, enjoying every sensation he aroused in her.

She heard the squeaking of their bedroom door open.

Suddenly, Todd stopped.

“Ooohhh…” said Trevor looking like he’d caught his parents with their hands in a cookie jar.

Todd flopped back on his side of the bed, “Argh!”

Téa leaned up adjusting the straps on her nightie and motioning for Trevor to join them on the bed. Trevor bounced up on the bed and sat down between them.

“Morning Mommy,” said Trevor with a big grin, “Morning Daddy.”

“Good Morning T.D.,” said Téa, “I’ve got to get up and take care of the twins. Why don’t you hang out with Daddy.”

Todd sat up, his eyes bugging out. He was frustrated with Trevor for interrupting their private moment. Yet again.

Trevor looked at Todd while Téa got up, put on her robe and walked out.

“Daddy, are you mad at me for walking in while you were kissing Mommy?” asked Trevor sadly.

Todd’s heart melted at the sincerity in his son’s voice but he wanted to be honest with him. Todd turned to face his son.

“Trevor – yeah – I’m kinda…Look, I wanted to wake Mommy up in a special way and you interrupted that. You’ve been interrupting us all week. We gotta make a rule…” said Todd.

“A rule?” asked Trevor innocently.

“Yep. A rule. From now on you knock whenever our door is closed and you want to come inside…” said Todd firmly.

Trevor nodded his head ‘yes’.

Todd smiled at him.

Suddenly Trevor jumped off the bed and ran out. Todd quickly slid his boxers on. Trevor ran in holding a book.

“Can you finish the story? I think Mommy fell asleep reading it to me last night,” said Trevor bouncing on the bed.

“You sure it wasn’t the other way around and you fell asleep on Mommy?” asked Todd pulling his son into his side.

“Uh-huh,” said Trevor.

Todd took the book and read. And of course he had to start at the beginning. He could hear Téa preparing the twins breakfast and feeding them. After about thirty minutes, as Todd was finishing up Trevor’s story, Téa walked in and motioned that she was going to take a shower. Todd paused, enjoying the presence of his young son, while looking longingly at the closed door which led to the shower. He felt Trevor squirm as he thought of joining Téa in the shower.

“Daddy – what’s this?” asked Trevor holding up Téa’s closed BC container.

Todd wrinkled his brow and took it from Trevor, “These are your Mommy’s ah…supplements…” he mumbled.

“Why does Mommy need supple-mints?” asked Trevor innocently.

“It’s a girl thing,” said Todd. He opened the container. His mouth dropped. It was Friday but according to this, Téa last took a pill on Saturday. She’d missed at least four days. A rush of excitement pulsed through his body…but he was confused…didn’t she want to wait. Didn’t she insist they wait?

“Daddy, what’s wrong? Is Mommy gonna be ok?” asked Trevor with concern, “Did she take all her supple-mints?”

“Mommy’s fine,” said Todd trying to keep his tone light, “Now I want you to find your stuffed teddy and play in your room.”

Todd got up and threw on his bathrobe. Trevor slinked off the bed, dejected.

“Hey! Don’t be sad. Daddy’s just got to have a very serious adult talk with Mommy, o.k…” explained Todd clutching the BC container.

“Is Mommy in trouble?” asked Trevor in a protective tone of voice as he paused by the door.

Todd took a breath and smiled, trying to remain calm in front of Trevor, “No, T.D., Your Mommy is not in trouble.”

Trevor nodded his head, satisfied, and left.

Todd opened and closed the shower door behind him, making sure to lock it.

“Todd, is that you?” asked Téa over the hum of the shower.

“Yep. Téa, we gotta have a talk,” he said seriously walking over to the shower area and standing before the sliding glass doors. He could make out her slender body inside the shower itself and he felt a sudden blast of adrenaline as his manhood reacted to her.

“What’s up Todd? Is Trevor o.k? The twins?” asked Téa rinsing out her hair.

“Trevor’s fine and so are the twins. Open the door and look at me,” he instructed.

She opened the door as the water continued to run, sticking her head out, smiling.

Todd held up the open BC container.

Téa stopped smiling.

“Téa, we’ve had sex more times in the past week than you’ve taken pills. You missed four pills straight – like, in a row…” said Todd firmly.

Téa swallowed as the realization of her folly hit her full force. She stumbled back into the shower, dazed, disoriented, and in shock.

“Oh No!” yelled Todd throwing off his robe and sliding off his boxers, throwing the container to the ground, “You are not going to do this!”

He slid the shower door open and joined his shocked wife in the shower.

They stared at each other, Téa using the shower wall to support her. The water cascaded over them.

“We are not going to pretend you took these four pills and we are not going to pretend there’s not a possibility you could be pregnant,” said Todd firmly as he ran his eyes intensely over her sexy, naked body.

She just looked at him in shock as the realization sunk in.

“Téa!” exclaimed Todd when she failed to answer him, “You didn’t have to lie to me. If you wanted more kids – why didn’t you tell me?”

“That’s just it Todd. I don’t want anymore kids. At least not right now!” she exclaimed.

Todd winced at her words, “So what if you are pregnant?” he said icily, “You gonna kill him…or her?”

The look on her face was pure horror and he immediately regretted his words. His own face reflected the disgust of what he’d just said.

Téa sneered at him as the water flowed between them. Both of them naked, body and soul before each other.

“I would NEVER…have an abortion…” she spat at him.

“I’m sorry Téa. I know you wouldn’t. I’m out of line. I should have never said those hurtful words but…I’m confused…why didn’t you take your pills?” he took a step toward her but she backed away holding up her hand.

“Don’t you dare touch me Todd Manning. Not after that horrible accusation,” she said coldly.

“It was horrible. Look – I’m sorry,” said Todd making a face, “But you know how I feel about kids. I love Shorty to death. I love kids. Especially ours and you know I want to have more kids with you – despite the hemophilia!” he passionately explained wanting so desperately to touch her.

Téa swallowed, “I know…how you feel about kids. Certainly you know how I feel about kids. I love our kids just as much as you do, but you, of all people, should understand how my heart breaks over Trevor’s hemophilia!”

The water continued to flow between their naked bodies as Todd drunk in her words.

“…and why I’m just not ready to go through that again, so soon after having the twins…” she concluded as tears formed in her eyes.

Todd swallowed as he realized the extent of his wife’s heartbreak and sorrow.

“I…understand…” he whispered sincerely, “Look, I just don’t want to play games when it comes to our kids.”

“Who’s playing a game Todd?” she asked. She could feel the intense beating of her own heart.

“Téa, why didn’t you take those pills?” asked Todd softly, barely audible over the sound of the shower. He could feel the rush of his blood through his veins.

“It was an accident Todd. Don’t you remember how distracted we’ve been?” she replied.

His eyes found hers.

“Your eyes don’t…lie…”

The moment between them was incredibly intense.

“Yeah. We’ve been distracted,” he added. He took a step toward her and stopped, testing the waters. She held her ground.

“You could be pregnant again,” he said passionately, wanting so desperately for it to be true.

“I know,” she answered.

There was a moment of silence between them.

“You should get tested,” he said walking into her personal space, hovering over her.

“I’ve got a lot to do today but I’ll squeeze in a visit to Dr. Clayton between meeting Nora and my deposition. I promise,” she replied looking into his eyes.

“I’m kinda happy about this,” said Todd passionately.

She gave him a quick smile, “I know.”

“I don’t want you to know first this time,” said Todd, “This time, I want to know first. I want to tell you.”

He reached out and tenderly cupped her cheek in the palm of his hand. She allowed his touch.

“That’s fine by me. I’ll leave instructions with Dr. Clayton to call you first,” she replied, savoring his touch, not realizing how desperately she wanted it or needed it.

He leaned into her, awkwardly, brushing his face against hers – caught up in the swirling emotions around them – seeking out her lips, so afraid she wouldn’t respond to him, realizing for the first time just how hard he was for her. And what did it matter now if he took her here in the shower? With all the incredible lovemaking between them the past four days – once more wouldn’t mean a thing…

She responded to his awkward kiss.

“I’m so sorry…” he muttered between their growing kisses, “…so sorry…sorry…sorry…”

He stepped into her, clearly aroused, knowing full well that she was just as aroused as he was. He felt her hands around him, comforting him, needing him. He looked up and brushed the wet hair off her face.

“…so sorry…”

“It’s all right…I know…you didn’t mean it…we’re just…surprised… surprised…that’s all ” she replied as she felt his manhood against her inner thing and his hand travel down to her tummy, gently caressing her moist, sensitive area.

The water flowed between them. Their breathing became quick and labored and they enjoyed the fruits of exploring each other’s body in a new light…

“…need you…” he whispered between their exchange of hot, open-mouthed kisses.

Their eyes spoke volumes of the love and forgiveness between them. Téa braced herself against the shower wall and Todd reached for her thigh, lifting it up and wrapping her leg around him, as he thrust himself into her. She was so tight. So firm. So wet.

“…need you bad…”

They moved in synch, kissing each other desperately, so in touch with one another’s body – so much fire, passion, desire – not even their mutual orgasms could extinguish the flame in their hearts that they had for each other.

Later that morning,
Téa’s law office…

Téa, Nick, and Nora sat around a conference table working out a discovery plan. Nora was furiously taking notes as was Nick. Téa was just staring out the window.

“So…when do I get access to Jed’s notes…?” asked Nora.

“Umm…” started Téa.

Nick looked up, “Sorry. That’s protected under the work product rule.”

“I was worth a try,” said Nora, “But you can’t claim work product rule for everything.”

“We’ll let you depose those reporters who uncovered the…Asa’s abuse…as long as we’re present,” offered Téa.

Nora’s face lit up, “Really?”

“Yeah,” confirmed Nick.

“Look, you just give us a list of who you want to depose and when,” said Téa, “I hate to be abrupt but I’ve got an appointment that I’ve got to make before I go to give my deposition.”

“Oh,” said Nora.

Nick looked at Téa and raised an eyebrow. He could tell something was bothering her.

Nora stood up and started shoving papers into her briefcase, “Well, we accomplished enough. I’ll have that list to you on Monday and I’ll see you in about forty-five minutes at the DA’s office.”

Nick walked Nora out. Téa collected her purse.

Nick stopped her, “What’s going on with you? You clearly were distracted during this meeting.”

Téa swallowed, “I’ve just a lot on my plate right now.”

“What?” asked Nick, “Can I help?”

Téa let out a breath, “It’s a pregnancy test. I’ve got to have a pregnancy test.”

“Oh,” said Nick.

Téa walked out the door.

Nick wrinkled his brow, full of concern, as he watched her leave. This might be a problem.

The Da’s Office…

Téa sprinted through the busy hallways and got to Hank Gannon’s door. She stopped and paused in front of it, taking a deep breath. She checked her watch. She was ten minutes late. She brought her hand up to her forehead and ran her fingers through her hair. All of a sudden she couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed. She was concerned about Trevor, Fiona’s latest trick, Asa’s libel suit, a new house, and now…possibility…a new baby. She knocked on the door and went in.

Todd was standing up next to the window. Nora was sitting in a chair. Hank stood up.

“Glad you could make it Téa,” said Hank.

“Sorry I’m late,” she said a bit out of breath.

Todd walked up beside her saying nothing, keeping his hands in his pockets, studying her face.

“Well, you didn’t give yourself a lot of time between our meeting and this one,” said Nora.

Téa briefly smiled and sat down. Todd sat down beside her.

“Can we get this thing started?” asked Todd.

Hank smiled and pulled out a tape recorder, “So Téa, what do you remember about that day?”

Nora pulled out a notepad to take notes.

Again, Téa ran her hands through her hair, “Ah, I had a checkup with ah…my doctor that day and I took Trevor and Starr with me to the hospital. And ah, after the checkup we walked into the parking lot and Fiona approached me and the kids and we began arguing,” said Téa.

“What about?” asked Hank.

Téa made a face. This was going to be hard, “She asked me if Todd had any heredity problems in his genes…like I do…then she told me she was going to get back at Todd and…his family. I told Fiona I was not going to argue in front of the kids. I went to get the kids into the car and she put her hand on mine. I opened the door, she pushed me away. I went for the door again and she struck me with a closed fist in the face,” she turned to Todd with a tear in her eye. He raised his hand and wiped her tear.

There was a bit of silence.

“So, ah, Téa, how was Trevor that morning? His limp? Was he limping?” asked Nora furiously writing notes.

Téa turned on Nora, “How could you ask me that? You and Bo saw Trevor that morning. He was walking just fine!”

Nora hung her head, “You’re right. I saw him that morning. Trevor was fine.”

“Did you ever see Fiona strike Trevor?” asked Hank.

“No. Not the kids. She struck me,” insisted Téa.

“When did you see Trevor next?” asked Hank.

“That afternoon on the docks. Fiona had him and he couldn’t walk. Todd picked him up and brought him to me. Trevor’s ankle was swollen,” said Téa softly.

Todd reached for her arm in a gesture of comfort.

Hank shut off the tape recorder.

Later that afternoon…

Blair and Todd sat on each side of Starr as Starr fidgeted on the small couch in Hank Gannon’s office. Téa sat on an adjacent chair and Nora sat across from her. Hank sat on his desk dressed in casual clothes so as to put Starr more at ease.

Todd held Starr’s hand and Blair put a comforting arm around her shoulder.

“So, Starr, I hate to ask you about that day Fiona took you and Trevor but I kinda’ have too. If something gets to uncomfortable to talk about, let me know, all right,” said Hank quietly.

“Okay Mr. Gannon,” said Starr politely.

“What happened after Fiona hit Téa?” asked Hank.

“Fiona made me and little Tee get in her car and we tried to get but the door wouldn’t open. Fiona said something about child locks. Fiona put something in Tee’s pocket and drove off. Little Tee was really worried…” said Starr. She knew it was important to as honest as she could.

“Did Fiona hurt you or little Tee?” asked Hank softly.

“No,” said Starr, “She said some mean stuff but she didn’t hurt us.”

Nora looked up surprised.

Todd looked at Téa, his eyes confused.

Blair softly rubbed Starr’s shoulders.

“Starr, how did little Tee hurt his ankle?” asked Hank.

“Little Tee kept kicking the door. Fiona told him to stop but he wanted too get out of the car and be with Tee. He was worried about her. We both were,” explained Starr.

“Thanks Starr,” said Hank, “Blair, you can take Starr home now.”

Starr hugged Todd, then Téa and left with Blair.

Hank turned to Téa, “We have a problem. You know that.”

“What’s the problem?” asked Todd with concern.

“Fiona didn’t cause Trevor’s injury. His injury was self-inflected,” said Nora softly.

“But Trevor would not have done it if Fiona didn’t kidnap him!” insisted Todd.

“But Fiona didn’t touch him. She didn’t…physically…hurt him,” said Hank.

“Hank, don’t…” whispered Téa. A tear trailed down her cheek as she wrapped her arms around herself and her voice cracked.

“Téa…I can’t make the Aggravated Assault charge stick on Trevor. And you know that,” said Hank sympathetically.

“Damn you! Damn you Gannon!” yelled Todd upset, “My son…limps…” he walked up behind Téa – just standing behind her, caught up in his own anger to comfort her.

“I’m sorry Todd…” said Hank, “I’m going to have to drop this charge. However that means I can move forward with sentencing on the other charges Fiona’s plead too.” Hank walked over to Nora, whispered something in her ear and they walked out giving Todd and Téa their privacy. Téa began to softly sob.

“Look, it doesn’t matter Delgado – right? I mean she plead guilty to the other stuff. We’ll get her – we will…” said Todd, his voice cold.

Téa took two steps in front of her and felt weak. She reached out for Hank’s desk. Todd finally realized how upset she was over this development. He helped her to sit down on the desk and stood before, finding her eyes, his hands resting on her arms.

Téa said nothing through her tears. Todd reached over, grabbed a tissue and began to wipe her face.

“I love you Delgado,” he said.

She nodded her head, “Let’s…just put this behind us. Please? Fiona will be sentenced soon…and she’ll be out…out of our lives…Let’s just…focus…on helping Trevor and helping him to walk without a limp…Please?” Her voice was broken.

He drew her into a hug to comfort her.

Late that afternoon,
The Law Office…

Téa walked into her office with her Faberge egg. After her Starr’s deposition she composed herself with Todd’s help and then went to pick up the egg from the jewelers. Todd went to the Sun.

She heard a knock on the door and Nick walked in, “Hey – you all right?”

“Yeah,” said Téa standing by her window.

“When do you find out the results?” asked Nick.

“Tomorrow,” she replied.

Nick pointed to the egg on her desk, “I see you got your egg back.”

“Yeah. Guess what?” said Téa.

“What?” asked Nick putting his hands in his pockets.

“It’s the real thing,” said Téa, ‘It’s worth millions.”

Nick’s mouth dropped as if he was totally surprised, “Really? It’s not a fake?”

“Nope,” said Téa, “Ironic, isn’t it?”

Nick swallowed, his face becoming serious, “You need to be careful. You don’t want anyone stealing it.”

Téa laughed, “Who would believe Téa Manning owns a real Faberge egg?”

“Someone who wants it badly,” replied Nick.

That Evening…

Todd walked into the house. His face lit up as he watched Téa and Trevor play with Trevor’s building blocks.

“Whatcha’ building?” asked Todd.

Trevor beamed at his father, “The umpire state building.”

“It’s Empire, T.D.,” corrected Téa softly.

Todd knelt down and hugged T.D. Then he leaned over and lightly kissed Téa on the cheek. She smiled at him.

“Shorty is coming over tonight,” said Todd.

Trevor clapped his hands with excitement.

“The doctor didn’t call me today,” said Todd.

“He told me tomorrow,” said Téa, “Yeah…tomorrow…on top of that there’s the sentencing coming up…the libel suit…we’ll be moving soon…” She felt so stressed all of a sudden. Todd could just see the stress flooding her body.

T.D., realizing he was missing a block, went to his bedroom to get it.

Todd, on his knees, suddenly reached over to Téa, who was also on her knees and pulled her into him. His hands on her face, he leaned into her and began kissing her deeply.

“I couldn’t get you off my mind all day…” he whispered, “I’ve been wanting to do this all afternoon…”

“Amazing coincidence. You were on my mind all day as well…” she replied between his kisses. Enjoy them… relaxing in them.

They knelt before each other, enjoying just kissing on another, accepting each other and their situation.
