I TAKE THE DICE - PART FOUR

Their moans of pleasure intermingled as they climaxed together.
She remained sitting on top of him as the spasms over took them…
Their eyes, looking deep into each other’s…
No words were said.

September 2001…
Todd rolled over and looked at the alarm clock. 5:54 a.m. He felt Téa rest her hand on his waist.
“Pist…Téa…” he whispered.
“What?”
“It’s almost six. You know what happens at six, right?” he asked enjoying her gentle caress.
“T.D. will pay us a visit,” she replied.
“I say we pay him a visit,” said Todd flinging off the covers and bolting out of the bed.
“Good idea,” said Téa getting up. She reached for her nightie off her nightstand. Her and Todd got dressed and put on their bathrobes. They slinked out of their room and slowly, they opened Trevor’s door.
Trevor was snuggled up in his bed and reaching for his stuffed teddy bear with his eyes closed. Todd and Téa rushed his bed and began to tickle the helpless boy. Trevor immediately started laughing and giggling.
“Morning T.D.!” giggled Téa.
“Hi, kid. We missed you!” laughed Todd.
Trevor’s loud giggling filled the house as they lavished him with tickles.
“Stop Mommy! Daddy!”
“hehehe…” laughed Todd.
Suddenly Téa stopped and looked intently at Trevor, “Trevor! You didn’t!”
He nodded his head 'yes'.
“What?” asked Todd stopping.
“We made him laugh so hard he pee’d his pants,” said Téa frowning.
Trevor sat up and made a face.
“Yuck,” said Todd standing up, “Are you toilet trained kid?”
Trevor nodded his head ‘yes’ looking very sad.
“Accidents happen Todd,” said Téa standing up, “Look, I’ve got to take care of the twins. Can you take the sheets off his bed, put his PJ’s in the hamper, and give him a bath?”
“Sure,” said Todd forlornly, not looking forward to it. Téa walked out.
“C’Mon – get up!” instructed Todd. Trevor crawled out of his bed and took off his PJ’s while Todd stripped the bedsheets. They made a pile on the floor and Todd put Trevor’s bathrobe on the boy. Together, they walked down to the children’s bathroom in the hall. Todd ran the bathwater while Trevor brushed his teeth. When the tub was full, Trevor crawled in and Todd lathered up the washcloth for Trevor.
“Don’t forget under the arms,” said Todd.
Trevor immediately did under his arms, “I was kinda’ bad, huh?” he asked.
“Nah…you’re just a kid…” said Todd grinning.
“Mommy’s not mad at me, is she?” asked Trevor.
“No, Mommy’s not mad at you,” said Todd reaching for the baby shampoo.
“Mommy’s glowing…” said Trevor innocently.
“Glowing? What do you know about glowing kid?” asked Todd dunking Trevor’s head and getting his hair wet.
“You make Mommy glow,” said Trevor as Todd lathered up his hair.
“Oh, o.k.,” said Todd rolling his eyes.
“She makes you glow too…” said Trevor as Todd shampooed his hair.
“You’re a pretty observant kid,” said Todd, “Good lawyer trait. Must get it from your Mom.”
Téa walked in with Taylor in her arms, feeding her a bottle, “How’s it coming?”
Todd looked up and paused. She did appear to be glowing. Her face was bright, her smile was warm. Her tanned skin complemented her slender figure and the peach of her nightgown. And she looked so damn sexy feeding Taylor her bottle.
“All most done…” said Todd hesitantly turning his attention back to Trevor. He began rinsing Trevor’s hair.
“Are you going to the Sun first thing?” asked Téa readjusting Taylor’s bottle as Taylor squirmed.
“Yeah. What’s your plan?” he asked.
“I’m going to the office and then I’ll come over to the Sun so we can get started on the libel suit,” she explained, “Sam’s gonna bail out RJ today and work on his case. He’ll be doing the bulk of the work on that case while Nick and I will do the bulk of the work on the libel suit.”
“Cool,” said Todd. He reached for a towel and covered up Trevor as he stepped out of the tub, clean as a whistle.
“Mommy, you’re not mad at me are you?” asked Trevor remorsefully.
Téa smiled, “No, of course not T.D.”
A towel dry Trevor went over to Téa and gave her a warm hug around her leg.
“Sorry Mommy…” he said sweetly.
Téa just smiled as she looked down at her young son.

The Sun…
Todd threw the proof on his desk. Kelly looked up frowning.
“Crabby?” she asked.
“No. I just hate everyone. Including Asa. And Fiona,” said Todd, “Can you believe that bitch got off for therapy?”
The phone rang. It was Hank.
“Hey Todd, I hate to do this. I was trying to track down Téa. I need to talk her and Starr. I’m trying to put together a case against Fiona since she plead not guilty to Agg Assault on your son and their statements are very important to the case…”
“What? Téa I can understand but Starr? Starr’s just a kid…” said Todd, his voice dropping in pitch, reflecting his nervousness.
“Look, I can’t take a statement from your son because he’s too young but Starr is old enough to tell me what happened when it was just her, Fiona, and Trevor. I can’t make a case against Fiona without Starr’s statement. If you want, I’ll allow you and Blair to be present at the questioning along with your attorney.”
“If that’s what you need. When?” asked Todd clearly bothered by this turn of events.
“Tomorrow afternoon at one. If I can get Téa to come tomorrow at say 10, that would be great…”
“When I see Téa, I’ll tell her,” said Todd. He hung up the phone and hung his head, taking a deep breath.
Just then Téa walked in with Nick at her side. Todd picked up his head and smiled. Both looked very professional in their power suits and briefcases. Todd noticed how Kelly’s eyes lit up.
“Nick Kerensky, my husband, Todd Manning and Kelly Cramer, his right hand…ah, second in command at the Sun,” said Téa making introductions.
Kelly immediately reached out, “Hello Mr. Kerensky.”
“Call me Nick, Kelly,” he said shaking her hand and smiling at her.
“Hey Téa,” said Todd evenly, “Give Hank a call. He wants you to go in tomorrow and give a statement. He’s working on that case against Fiona. Shorty has to go in tomorrow at one. He’ll let me and Blair and you be there…”
Téa grew serious, nodded her head and called Hank, confirming her appointment. After that phone call, Todd called Blair and made arrangements with her.
“Well, aside from that, we’re here to work,” said Téa handing Todd a list, “We need everything on that list.”
Todd looked at it and frowned, “You got a long list.”
Téa gave him a sly grin, amused with his comment, “Can you give me everything on it? And more?”
Todd found her eyes. Kelly and Nick looked up and wondered what was going on.
“I don’t know. I might have to go west…” he added.
Todd and Téa laughed.
“What’s so funny?” asked Kelly crossing her arms.
Todd threw the list at Kelly, “You wouldn’t understand. Here – round up the list and put everything in the conference room down the hall.”
“Slavedriver!” remarked Kelly.
“Hey Cramer! I don’t have to give you a job!” yelled Todd after her as Kelly walked out. Kelly and Nick exchanged glances as she left.
Todd, Téa, and Nick then exchanged awkward glances between themselves. Todd put his hands in his pockets, “So, Nick… you got the hots for my wife?”
Téa just put her head in her hand and nodded her head, grinning with disgust.
Nick wrinkled his brow, “I barely know your wife..! Besides, I don’t…whatever,” answered Nick waltzing over to Todd’s desk.
Todd walked over to Téa and lifted her chin up so he made eye contact with her, “What?”
She just playfully rolled her eyes.
“What?” he asked again.
“I give up Manning,” said Téa giving him a light kiss on the cheek.
Nick picked up a picture of Todd, Téa, and Trevor taken at Trevor’s birthday, “Cute.”
“Thanks Nick,” said Téa.
“You got kids Kerensky?” asked Todd.
“I have a daughter who lives with her mother. I’m divorced,” said Nick.
“Oh,” said Todd.
Nick held up the baby pictures, “Who?”
“Our twins, Tyler and Taylor,” said Téa grinning.
“You have another boy?” he asked with concern.
“Yes,” said Téa softly.
Todd wrinkled his brow.
“He’s fine,” said Téa, “He doesn’t have it.”
“What’s it to you Kerensky?” asked Todd defensively.
“My brother has hemophilia. I don’t,” said Nick.
“Oh. You’re like Tyler,” said Todd.
“Yeah – I’m like Tyler,” confirmed Nick.
“I guess you’re not so bad,” said Todd.
“Thanks Todd…” said Nick crossing his arms.
Todd’s phone rang. He bolted for it.
“What?” he demanded.
Pause.
“I do? Again?”
Pause.
“Right now?”
Pause.
“All right…”
He hung up.
“What’s up Todd?” asked Téa.
“I gotta go sign more papers with the real estate guy,” said Todd.
“We’ll just wait in your office until Kelly gets back,” said Téa.
“All right,” said Todd. He gave her a quick kiss on her cheek as he walked out.
Nick looked at Téa, “Your husband’s…”
“Ah, I know. Don’t worry. He likes you,” said Téa.
“Right. How can I be so sure?” asked Nick.
“Want some coffee?” asked Téa spying the coffee maker.
“Sure,” said Nick.
She poured him a cup and handed it to him. He smiled at her.

Buchanan Mansion…
Asa was standing up next to his bar sipping on some bourbon and branch. Nora sat silently on a chair next to the couch with an amused grin on her face. Brooke English and Kevin Buchanan sat on the couch. Brooke was reviewing Fiona’s portfolio. Fiona stood next to Asa watching Brooke review her photography.
“You’ve got quite an impressive portfolio Fiona. Your work in Sarajevo won you a Pulitzer, didn’t it?” asked Brooke.
“Ummm, yeah, it did,” Fiona confirmed softly as she played with her hands. She was nervous. Very nervous.
“Fiona’s really talented Brooke. She’d be quite an asset to your magazine,” said Kevin proudly.
Fiona exchanged a look with Asa. Asa took a sip of his drink.
Brooke put the portfolio down and looked at Fiona, “I hear you’re seeing a therapist and have been in some trouble with the law.”
“I’m not going to lie to you Ms. English – it’s true,” said Fiona bluntly but carefully.
“Now Brooke is that going to stop Fiona from getting the job?” asked Asa firmly.
“I don’t know. I know you plead guilty to all the charges except one. Why not that one?” asked Brooke intently.
Fiona knew that how she answered would mean her job. She swallowed, “I did it. I’m not going to deny I kidnapped those kids and gave Téa Manning a black eye. I did that. But the police said I hurt that boy. That tiny boy with hemophilia,” she paused as her voice shook, ‘I did not lay one hand on that boy in anger or violence. I knew he had hemophilia and I knew I had to be careful with him so as not to harm him. I will not plead guilty to something I did not do.”
“I see,” said Brooke, “Do you think you should be…punished for what you did?”
“Now wait a minute Missy…” spoke up Asa.
“No, Asa, I’ll answer,” spoke up Fiona quickly.
Nora bit her lip and leaned back, anxiously anticipating Fiona’s answer.
Fiona looked at the ground and then up at Asa before turning to Brooke. Kevin’s smile gave her strength.
“A simple “I’m sorry” isn’t going to make things better. A simple “I’m sorry” didn’t make Téa’s eye get better overnight. But jail – time in prison – alone with only my thoughts and no opportunities to atone for my wrongdoings? That’s too extreme. I need an opportunity to do right – and I need the assistance of my loved ones…to get my act together,” said Fiona. She felt drained and all at once an incredible wave of sadness overcame her, as she thought of the child she had just recently miscarried. Kevin stood up, walked over to her and gave her a big strong hug.
Brooke bit her lip. Fiona and Kevin softly smiled at each other and turned to Brooke.
“I’ll take a chance on you Fiona but you’ll play by my rules and no funny business,” said Brooke firmly, “I’ll give you…your chance.”
Fiona smiled.
Nora didn’t know what to make of Brooke’s generosity or if Fiona’s desire to make things right was sincere.

That evening…
Todd sat on the couch holding Taylor, watching the kids. Tyler was lying on his stomach on a blanket on the floor and Trevor was lying on his stomach, facing Tyler. Trevor was showing his younger brother all his stuffed animals.
Todd was making faces at Taylor. Taylor was trying to imitate his faces.
Téa walked into the living room and hung up her phone. She paused admiring her family.
Todd looked up, “Who was that?”
“Nora. We have to get together to arrange for discovery soon. Not only that, she’ll be there at mine and Starr’s deposition tomorrow,” replied Téa. She sat down on the couch next to Todd.
“I’ll be there with you tomorrow too,” said Todd intently. The air between them was thick. Téa decided to cut it.
“Good. I’m glad. Now, just look at T.D. and Tyler,” whispered Téa, “It’s so sweet to see Trevor taking care of his younger brother.”
Todd just smiled, “Yeah.”
There was an awkward pause between them. Téa leaned over and made a face a Taylor. Taylor made it back.
“Hey! Did you see that? Her face lit up when you looked at her!” exclaimed Todd clearly excited.
“Yep. She knows who I am…” said Téa grinning, “I’m that person who feeds you every morning…”
Todd just smiled.
“I can’t wait to teach her girl stuff you know,” said Téa looking at Todd, “I can’t wait to take her to dance classes and if she wants to play soccer or softball…”
“Soccer? Softball? Téa – she’s a girl…” exclaimed Todd.
“So? Girls play sports Todd. I always wanted to play softball but we were too poor. My Poppi would work extra hours just so I’d have money to take dance lessons,” said Téa softly.
“Aww,” said Todd, “Whatever. If Taylor wants to play sports, then we’ll see to it that Taylor plays sports.”
Téa’s sad smile made Todd’s heart go out to her.
“Maybe – when we have our next kid – you know – we’ll have another girl. This way, we’ll be even – 3 guys, 3 girls…” said Todd.
“You’re not in a rush, are you Todd?” asked Téa playfully.
“Nah. We can wait a bit,” said Todd grinning at her.
Téa leaned over and they shared a tender kiss.
