I TAKE THE DICE - PART TWENTY FOUR

A rush of adrenaline flooded her body fueled by her incredible panic and fear.
“I did not kill him!!” she exclaimed.
“You are accused of his murder slut!!” yelled the second guy hovering over Sam.
And while the two men were preoccupied with Téa and Sam, Joey stealthily made his way to the door and by the time the men realized Joey was there, he rushed out of the diner and ran hard and fast to notify the police.

Téa’s Law Office Building,
The security office…

Tina sat back in her chair, crossed her arms and smiled. Kevin leaned forward and his mouth dropped. He was shocked. The video played in front of them of the night Nick died. And it clearly showed that Fiona had entered the building before Téa and they were wearing very similar clothes. And while it didn’t show what happened in Téa’s office, it showed Fiona follow Nick into Téa’s office and it showed a nervous and upset Fiona leave Téa’s office. And lastly, it showed Téa walking into her office a minute or two after Fiona had left.

“Téa’s innocent…” muttered Kevin.

“Without a doubt…” grinned Tina, proud of herself.

Kevin’s heart sunk. He couldn’t believe it. Fiona’s denial met she lied. And it was too late. He was in love with her, despite all her hang ups and faults. But he couldn’t let her get away with what she was doing. Not after sharing the experience he had with Téa trying to save Nick’s life.

“I’m going to Todd with this,” confirmed Tina.

“I’m not going to stop you,” said Kevin.

“And what are you going to do?” asked Tina. She got up and rewound the tape.

“Let me talk to Fiona. I’m going to try to talk her into confessing,” said Kevin rather stoically.

“Well, I’m hanging on to the videotape,” said Tina.

“That videotape is evidence Tina!” exclaimed Kevin, “You have to turn it over to the police.”

“After I show Todd,” insisted Tina.

“Whatever,” said Kevin. He stood up. Tina grabbed the tape and they walked out of the video viewing room and approached the guard force’s watch commander at the building’s front desk.

“Thanks a lot for the tape,” said Tina giving him a sly smile.

“Sure. Poor Ms. Manning…” said the watch commander.

“Yeah, I know,” said Kevin.

“Oh, you heard?” asked the watch commander.

“Heard what?” asked Tina.

The watch commander turned up the volume on the mini-TV he was watching and turned it to face them.

Blair was on the TV screen, reporting from behind a police barricade.

”Reports indicate that local prominent attorneys Sam Rappaport and Téa Manning are being held by two terrorist gunmen within the diner. Joey Buchanan, an eyewitness has stated that he believed one of the hostages, Sam Rappaport, was injured. So far, there have been no demands and it is believed they are being held by family members of slain attorney Nicholas Kerensky, seeking revenge for his murder…”

“Oh My God! I’ve got to find Todd!” cried Tina.

“I’ve got to get to Fiona,” said Kevin. His reaction was calm and reserved. He was simply shocked and deeply hurt. He realized it was his responsibility to get Fiona to come forward and admit her involvement – now. Only Fiona could save Téa’s life with her confession.

“Well, it’s been fun Kev, but I’m outta’ here…” said Tina walking out. Kevin followed behind her, haunted by memories of him and Téa trying to save Nick’s life. He never thought he could feel for Téa Manning again.

The Park…

Todd pushed his little boy on the swing. Trevor laughed and giggled and Todd was pleased that a small thing could give his son such pleasure. Todd was deeply worried about the events of the last few days on Trevor. Trevor had become downright bratty at times but Todd realized it was just his reaction to the people and events around him. Trevor was used to having life in a certain way. Todd’s face grew serious. This was it. The end of the line. No more. As soon as they cleared Téa of this murder charge, he would bring normalcy back to his family. Trevor would never again feel insecure and Trevor would know and see his father’s love for Téa was deep. He would teach his son that both of them could love Téa without having to “compete” for her love. His family would want for nothing.

“Todd!” came a cry.

Todd turned his head and saw Tina walking toward him. She appeared anxious.

Trevor waved at Tina and she waved back as she approached them. She stepped off to the side.

“What’s wrong?” asked Todd.

“I’ll give you the good news first,” said Tina. She held up a videotape, “This is all you need to clear the charge against your wife.”

Todd swallowed and his face grew into a devious smile, “Where did you get that?”

“It’s the videotape from her building, but…”

“But what?” asked Todd. He stopped pushing Trevor and walked over to her taking the tape out of her hand.

Tina leaned into Todd and spoke softly, “Todd, your wife is being held hostage at the diner by Nick’s family.”

“You’re kidding me right?” he asked, stunned by her words.

“No,” said Tina.

“Stay and watch Trevor,” said Todd furious.

Trevor stopped swinging, “No Daddy!! I wanna’ go with you!!” He jumped off the swing and fiercely looked at his father.

“Trevor – you can’t. This is…serious…” said Todd at a loss for words. How could he tell his son about the situation?

“Don’t leave me!!” cried Trevor.

Todd could see his son’s escalating temper.

“Trevor, stop it! You have to stay with Tina,” said Todd firmly.

Trevor ran to his father and began to hit him with his baby fists, “Don’t leave me!!”

Todd immediately scooped the young boy into his arms, “Show me your hands Trevor!”

Todd wanted to be sure Trevor hadn’t hurt himself.

“Don’t leave me again!!” cried Trevor.

“I won’t leave you. Now show me your hands,” said Todd.

Trevor held up his hands and Todd looked for signs of internal bleeding. Thankfully, there was none and Trevor wrapped his arms around Todd’s chest, lightly whimpering, afraid his father would leave him again.

Todd was well aware even the slightest incident would cause Trevor to bleed and was thankful he stopped his son in time.

Todd looked at Tina, “I can’t leave him alone, with you…”

“I understand. Follow me,” said Tina. Todd briskly followed Tina while his young son clung to him in his arms.

The Buchanan Mansion…

Kevin Buchanan stormed into his grandfather’s mansion. Nora was there with her new baby, Troy, showing him off. Asa was proudly holding him. Nora didn’t look as happy as one should but that was because Bo had to respond to a crisis down at Carlotta’s diner.

“Where’s Fiona?!” demanded Kevin.

“In the dark room developing some pictures,” said Asa, “Now come meet your young cousin…”

Kevin felt torn. He had to find Fiona, “Grandpa, I’m sorry. I’ve got to talk to Fiona…” he said.

“What about?” asked Nora.

Just then Fiona walked in with a roll of film.

Kevin looked at her keeping his face free of emotion, “Fiona, I know you did it.”

“Did what?” she asked.

Nora and Asa looked on with curiosity.

“I know you did it. Don’t deny it. You killed Nick Kerensky…” said Kevin, “I saw the video surveillance tape from that night…”

“Fiona?” muttered Nora.

“Girl, you weren’t out of jail 24 hours – when did you have the time?” muttered Asa.

Fiona was speechless.

Kevin walked up to her, grabbed her arms with his hands and literary shook her.

“What were you thinking? Letting Téa Manning take the fall for a crime she didn’t commit?!” he yelled at her, scaring her.

“She didn’t do it so a jury won’t convict her and I wouldn’t go back to jail…” muttered Fiona. “Yes! Yes I do! She’s his wife…!” spat Fiona.

“My God, Fiona! I was there that night! I saw her try to save his life. I saw an innocent woman totally humiliated that night at the police station!!” Kevin was full of emotion and a growing feeling of disgust was finally filling his body.

Nora got in Fiona’s face, “Fiona? What? Did you…kill Nicholas Kerensky?”

“It was self defense!! We were arguing about a stupid damn egg!!! He had me at gunpoint…we struggled…it went off…!!” yelled Fiona.

“Aw geez Fiona,” said Nora.

“Fiona, do you know where Téa Manning is now?” asked Kevin.

“No…I could care less,” said Fiona coldly.

“She’s being held hostage in Carlotta’s diner. They think it’s Nick’s family seeking revenge against Nick’s killer and they’ve got the wrong woman…”

Nora swallowed.

Tears began to flow down Fiona’s cheeks.

“Tell me you don’t care Fiona,” pushed Kevin.

“I don’t…” she muttered whipping her tears off her cheeks but they still flowed out of her eyes.

“Téa Manning is a mother Fiona! She’s got three kids! Three kids who need a mother! Now the right thing to do is to confess so those hoods release her and continue to let her be a mother!!” said Kevin passionately, “Fiona…her kid is a hemophilic…”

“I don’t want to go back to jail…” whimpered Fiona.

“If you confess now Fiona,” said Nora, “I will defend you. You said it was self defense and I’m a good lawyer Fiona. I can get you off but you have to do the right thing now, and save Téa.”

Fiona’s eyes grew narrow and she sniffled back tears.

“I don’t know if I can do it…” she cried, “I hate her…I wanted to be the one…”

“Do it because it’s the right thing to do! For once Fiona, do it ‘cos it’s the right thing to do!” said Kevin pulling her into a hug.

Fiona looked past his shoulder into Nora’s eyes and nodded her head. Fiona was scared but if she had Kevin and Nora then maybe she could do the right thing for once.
