HAZY SHADE OF WINTER 3 - PART 2

“See What’s Become of me…”

Previously...

“Where are you going?” he asked.
“Upstairs to my room. Don’t follow me…”
“Why?” he asked.
“Because I want to be alone!” she said raising her voice, “I made vows – to my husband…a man I love very much and I…just might have screwed up the one thing in my life I want most – my marriage!”
Cameron watched her storm out of the room. He screwed up her life. Again.
Unbeknownst to them, Mrs. Tilton had watched and had heard everything that occurred between them.

The Alton Summer Home,
Late that night…

Téa Delgado Manning raced up to her room and left the door opened a crack. She paced the spacious accommodating bedroom – her suitcase half unpacked. She was nervous, scared, and upset, shocked with herself that she had responded to Cameron’s kiss – that she had kissed him back with equal passion. What on Earth had possessed her?

Téa took a deep breath and ran her hand through her hair as she paced the room feeling sick to her stomach.

“I can’t believe I kissed him. But I did. I kissed him. Okay – okay. I kissed him. So why did I kiss him…?” muttered Téa out loud, her nervousness bothering her.

“It wasn’t passion. It wasn’t love. It was different. It wasn’t a type of kiss I kiss when I kiss Todd…” she said out loud trying to make sense out of her jumbled thoughts.

“Okay. What was I feeling? I was feeling sad and sorry – I wanted to make him feel better. So why? Because he’s my daughter’s father. Because he’s good to her. He loved her and I…like that,” she said nervously pacing the room.

“Okay, so how do I feel about him? Him? The man…Cameron Alton? Ah! Téa! All right…all right…I admit it – I like the man. I do. Why? Because he’s good with Samantha. Samantha adores him. But what do I know about him? He’s funny at times…he’s rich…he’s shy…he’s sensitive…he’s not a bad looking guy….but Argh! ARGH!! He’s not the one. He was never there when I needed him. Todd was. Todd is! Delgado you are such a stupid shit!!” exclaimed Téa raising her voice.

She paced silently for a bit just allowing her frustration to work out.

“I kissed Cameron Alton because I was sad for him. That’s why I kissed him…” continued Téa, “Oh My God. What am I going to tell Todd?”

She paused as the sinking feeling in her stomach grew.

She swallowed, “I can’t tell Todd. I can’t. It will break his heart and I can’t do that to him – we’re finally on track – we’re together – if I tell Todd he won’t understand. He won’t forgive me. Not after our fight. God! I am such an idiot! He didn’t want me to come her. We fought about it. Damn it! He’ll say I told you so and throw me out of house!” she nervously said. Tears began to fall down her cheeks.

“I can’t keep it from him. I won’t be able too. Todd can read me like a book. One guilty look between Cameron and me and he’ll know. He’ll know…”

Téa whipped her tears on the sleeves on her shirt.

“Oh God, what am I going to tell my husband?” muttered Téa.

The door opened and Cameron stood in the doorway.

“Don’t tell him a thing Téa. I don’t…I won’t say a thing. I swear to you. I don’t want to be the cause of anymore problems between you and Todd,” said Cameron decisively.

“I will not lie to the man I love. My marriage is not based on lies and I won’t start lying to him now. I kissed you Cameron. I enjoyed it but it’s over now. I don’t love you Cameron. That kiss wasn’t about love. It was about comfort. I wanted to comfort you Cameron. That’s it. That’s all,” she said crossing her arms.

“It meant more than that to me Téa and I think you know that. I think you feel that,” said Cameron.

Téa swallowed and looked down at the floor, “I know how you feel about me. You love me. You really love me…”

“Yeah. I do. I love you. I know exactly how I feel about you. You make me nervous to be around you. You make me laugh. I haven’t felt like this since my wife died. You’re the one I want. You. But I’m not the one you want I will…respect that. I will respect that because…my daughter…our daughter…wants you in her life and I will do nothing to ruin that,” said Cameron firmly remaining in the doorway, not venturing to step into the room, “So I won’t say a thing about our kiss to your husband.”

“Damn it Cameron, don’t you get it? We won’t have to tell him. He will know. He will feel it. He will see it between us. One guilty look between us and he will know. I will not lie to him. I won’t,” said Téa.

Cameron looked at her with longing.

“Damn it. This is going to be one of the hardest things for me to do…” she muttered.

“I will always be here for you,” said Cameron softly.

“I don’t want you to be! I want my husband, damn it! And now I could lose him. Look – just go Cameron. Go. I’m going to call him. Now…” said Téa choking back sobs.

“Now?” questioned Cameron.

“Now,” she confirmed.

“I won’t say a word. I won’t,” said Cameron. He turned around and walked away.

Téa bit her lip and walked over to her bed, sitting down on it. She reached for the phone on the nightstand and stifled back sobs.

“Todd? Why am I crying? Samantha’s horse died…” she paused.

There was a bit of silence.

“I need you Todd. Can you home here?”

Again, there was silence.

“Thank You. Todd…!” she paused.

“I love you,” she said.

She waited a minute and hung up the phone.
