I TAKE THE DICE - PART NINE

“Todd, it’s beautiful…” she whispered.
“Look on the back,” he said.
She did. The initials TD and TM were entwined.
They became lost in each other.
“Oh Todd, thank you…” she whispered.
“I’m taking the day off. Let’s go home and hang out…with our kids,” he said as he took the necklace and placed it around her neck.
She nodded her head as he gently stroked her face.

September 2001
Mid-morning

Nora walked down the stairs of her house and smiled. Bo had all ready gone to work. She was glad to be feeling a little better. She walked over to her couch and checked her briefcase. The nanny walked out of the kitchen holding Brady’s hand.

“How are you today Mrs. Buchanan?” asked the nanny.

“Just a touch…of morning sickness. Nothing too serious…” said Nora smiling at Brady, “Hi Brady. How’s my big guy today?”

“Hi Mommy. Do you have to go?” said Brady sadly.

“Yep,” said Nora.

“Do you have to go to the doctor again?” asked Brady, wondering why she had to go.

“No sweetie,” said Nora, “I have other business.”

“How did your check-up go the other day Mrs. Buchanan?” asked the nanny.

“Just fine, Susan. Only two months to go and I can’t wait,” grinned Nora, “I’m only glad that I can still work.”

“I can’t wait either Mommy,” said Brady, “I hope you have a boy just like me.”

Nora walked over to Brady and gave her young son a warm hug.

The doorbell rang. Nora slowly stood up.

“You want me to get that, Mrs. Buchanan?” asked Susan.

“No, I’ll get it,” said Nora. She walked over to the door and opened it. Téa stood there, her arms crossed, holding a file, trying not to look stern.

“Téa, c’mon in…” said Nora motioning for Téa to walk in.

“Thanks Nora,” said Téa. She looked exhausted. She walked in and spied Brady and Susan, “Hello Susan. Hi Brady.”

“Hello Mrs. Manning,” said Brady, “Bye Mrs. Manning…” he ran out of the room and Susan ran after him.

“He’s a handful,” said Nora grinning.

“I know the feeling,” replied Téa.

“So, what brings you by?” asked Nora.

“This,” said Téa handing Nora a piece of paper, “It’s official now.”

Nora reviewed it, “Yep. It’s official. I’ll see to it Fiona stays 100 feet away from you and your family in accordance with the provisions of this restraining order.”

“Thank you Nora. Now, if you’ll excuse me, Todd and I are taking a day off to spend with the kids…” said Téa walking back toward the door.

“Téa. Wait!” said Nora.

Téa turned around, “What’s up?”

“I’ve spend some time with Fiona and I just wanted to say that…I think Fiona was sincere in wanting to apologize to Todd – only I don’t think she knew how to do it,’ said Nora evenly.

Téa let out an ironic chuckle, “Fiona? Sincere? I’m sorry Nora, I don’t buy it.”

“I can understand that. Especially after all she’s done to you. Fiona’s sentencing is tomorrow,” said Nora trying to feel Téa out further.

“I know,” replied Téa crossing her arms.

“I’m going to recommend community service, a fine, and continued out-patient therapy…” said Nora.

Téa squirmed, “That’s light for two kidnapping charges and Aggravated Assault.”

“Fiona needs therapy Téa, not jail,” said Nora firmly.

“Fiona needs to be punished,” said Téa coldly.

“And just want should her punishment be?” asked Nora.

“Oh, I can think of a few choice things…” said Téa, “Look, Nora, I don’t want to get into a pissing contest with you this morning. I just want to go home and spend time with my family. As for Fiona, I want her out of my life and out of my family’s life – forever.”

Téa opened the door and walked out, leaving Nora to shove the restraining order into her briefcase. She paused and stood up. “Just what should Fiona’s punishment be?” whispered Nora rhetorically.

Llanview General…

Fiona paced her hospital room as Kevin watched. She was waiting for her release papers to be signed. The concussion was mild and after staying overnight for observation, she was ready to be released.

“Nora will be here soon,” said Kevin as he stood up.

“I know,” said Fiona.

“You shouldn’t have gone to see Todd,” said Kevin standing in her way. It forced her to stop pacing, “What strange fascination do you have with that man?”

“Whatever,” said Fiona, “You’re right, Kevin. I shouldn’t have gone to apologize. I shouldn’t have tried to have been a decent human being. Who would believe Fiona? She’s crazy,” said Fiona sarcastically.

“Is that what it was all about?” he asked placing his hands on her arms.

“Yes…” she whispered, “I’m scared Kevin and I wanted to do something right so…so…Theodore’s’ life…wouldn’t be for nothing – and all I did was make things worse.”

He bushed her bangs out of her eyes.

Asa walked in and rolled his eyes, “You two are so sweet now stop making goo-goo eyes at each other. The doctor signed your release Fiona.” He held up the release papers. Kevin turned around.

Nora walked in, “Well Fiona, I see all your fans are here.”

Fiona frowned.

“Bad joke Nora,” said Kevin.

“How are you today Nora? How’s that little Buchanan you’re carrying?” asked Asa with a grin.

“Actually, he’s pretty feisty today,” said Nora. She turned to Fiona, “Now listen up Fiona. This is serious. Téa Manning filed and got a restraining order against you. You can not go 100 feet near the Mannings. Any Manning. Including Starr Manning. Do you understand that Fiona?”

Fiona bit her lip, “Oui, Je comprend.”

“In English?” said Nora crossing her arms.

“Yeah. I understand. I get it,” spat Fiona.

“Good,” said Nora, “Now if you’ll excuse me, Fiona and I have to go to her therapy appointment.”

“Nora, how’s that libel suit against Manning coming along anyway?” asked Asa.

Nora rolled her eyes, “We start discovery and taking depositions next week Asa. After that, depending on the evidence, Téa could make a motion for summary judgement. If not, we’ll begin jury selection,” explained Nora, “I’m on top of it Asa.”

“Good,” grinned Asa.

“Fiona, I’ll come over tonight,” said Kevin looking at her.

Fiona nodded her head, “Thank you. I don’t want to be alone tonight. Not before the sentencing.”

“All right, C’Mon…” said Nora, “Let’s go see Dr. Myers.”

Kevin lightly kissed Fiona on the cheek and Fiona walked off with Nora.

Kevin turned to Asa, “I don’t want her to go to jail.”

Asa grinned, “Don’t worry boy. I’ve got something in the works with a certain judge named Peterson.”

“Is it legal?” asked Kevin with concern.

Asa just laughed.

That afternoon,
The Manning residence…

Todd and Téa walked into their home, each holding a twin. T.D. walked in front of them finishing off an ice cream cone.

“Be careful not to spill your ice cream T.D.,” said Téa.

“Okay Mommy,” grinned Trevor, “Will you help me build another skyscraper?”

“Sure, T.D.,” said Téa.

T.D. finished his ice cream and walked off to his room to get his building blocks.

“Téa, you know we’re moving this weekend into the new house. I made the arrangements while you were out this morning,” said Todd grinning at her. He was in a good mood after spending the day with his family. They had just dropped Starr back off at Blair’s since Blair wanted to spend some time with Starr before going to Vegas.

Téa gently smiled, “It will be good to be settled into a bigger house. It will relieve some of my…stress.”

Téa went to the playpen and put Tyler down in it. He fussed a little, wanting to be held just a little bit longer. Todd put Taylor down next to him and then knelt down next to the playpen, admiring the twins. Taylor smiled at him.

Todd looked up at Téa, who was standing next to the playpen smiling at her twins.

“C’Mere Delgado,” he said motioning to her.

She raised an eyebrow.

He raised his arms, grabbed her at the waist and pulled her down next to him.

She giggled.

He brushed his lips against her neck, whispering into her ear, “Look at them. They’re wonderful. They’re what you get when you mix a little bit of Manning and throw in some Delgado.”

She wrapped her arms around his back in an intimate embrace.

“They are pretty cute…” said Téa finding his shoulders, resting her head there.

“They’re all ready developing personalities,” he continued to whisper, “They fuss. They squirm. They smile at us…”

“Uh-huh…” she replied looking up into his eyes.

“Wouldn’t it be cool if he had another one…” he whispered seductively, his sensual lips just inches away from hers.

Téa let out a breath, melting at his attempt to talk her into having another child.

“You can be very persuasive Mr. Manning, but…” she whispered leaning in closer to him.

“…but what?” he was lost in her eyes.

“…but we…”

T.D. walked in and went, “oohhh…” as he spied his parents.

“Trevor,” said Todd not breaking eye contact.

“What Daddy?” he asked walking up to his parents.

“I’m having a serous discussion with your mother. I’m on the verge of breaking down…her resolve…and talking her into doing things my way…” said Todd cracking a smile, still looking into her deep, expressive eyes.

Téa giggled.

“Well?” asked Todd.

TD dumped out his blocks and look at his parents kinda confused like.

“I think I need a little bit more persuasion…” she whispered.

Todd leaned in giving her a hungry kiss, devouring her lips.

TD frowned and began tugging at his father’s shirt. Todd ignored TD.

“Daddy!” fussed TD.

Todd broke away from the delicious kiss.

“How’s that for persuasion?” asked Todd.

“Tasty,” whispered Téa, “However it will take more than your kisses to persuade me into agreeing to your…uh…deal…”

Todd let out a breath and hung his head. Slowly he raised it to look at her yet again.

“Well you can bet I’m going to use every trick in the book Delgado…’cos this is one deal I want badly and you know how I am when I want something.”

Trevor just rolled his eyes.
