CARELESS MEMORIES - PART TWELVE

PREVIOUSLY

Slowly her hands rubbed up against his hairy muscular legs – against his warm thighs and she pressed her chest against his – sending a charge of electricity through her body. She gasped as Todd tore into her sending waves of pleasure throughout her body.
Todd lost himself inside her – his hands rested on her waist guiding her – matching their rhythm. His eyes finding hers – their connection passionate. He reached up and teased teased her lips with his kisses – the waves of pleasure intensifying as her chest rubbed against his chest – as her lips explored his.
Their moans of pleasure intermingled as they experienced the romance of the island and their vacation. Téa collapsed into his arms.
“Oh, Todd…”
“No words Delgado. I know how you feel about me.”
He picked her up and carried her into the chalet and to their bed…

August 2001…
Llanview…

Todd was behind the wheel of Téa’s ford mustang reflecting on the recent week’s events. The time he had spent with Téa in Puerto Rico had been…well, he didn’t have the words to describe it. Fantastic. Fantastic was the closest he could come. She was…fantastic. When they returned from their Puerto Rican vacation, they picked up Trevor and Starr and took them to Disneyland for two days. Trevor and Starr had a great time in Florida. They had returned from Florida that morning and had gone to Viki’s to catch up with the twins where they had a message waiting for them from Dr. Hart that the twin’s results were in. They left Trevor and Starr at Viki’s with Viki and Jessie and now they were driving to the hospital. Todd pulled into the hospital parking lot. They got out and went into the hospital making their way to Dr. Hart’s office.

They waited impatiently. Todd paced the waiting room. Téa sat down but kept bouncing her leg without realizing it. After what seemed at eternity, Dr. Hart called them into his office.

“So Doc, What’s the verdict?” asked Todd with a nervous twang to his voice.

“Well, we have some good news,” said Dr. Hart smiling as he sat down behind his desk. He motioned for Todd and Téa to sit down across from his desk. They nervously did so.

“Good news?” whispered Téa.

Dr. Hart smiled, “Tyler tested negative and does not have hemophilia.”

“That’s great!” exclaimed Téa looking at Todd, a tear falling down her cheek. Todd smiled at her and they stood up and exchange a hug.

“So, what about Taylor?” asked Todd as he held Téa close to him, never leaving her eyes.

Dr. Hart frowned, “I’m sorry. Taylor carries the gene…”

Their faces dropped and they turned to face him, “Then Taylor’s like me?” questioned Téa, “She won’t be effected but she’ll be a carrier.”

Dr. Hart nodded his head in confirmation.

Téa’s cell phone began to ring. She fumbled in her purse, pulling out the phone and answering it.

“Hello?”

Pause.

“What? Now? Sure…I can…I can make it,” said Téa. She paused and hung up the phone.

“What was that?” asked Todd.

“Sam. He’s calling from the courthouse. The jury is in on Bobby Patino’s trial and they’ll be announcing the verdict in half an hour. I’d like to be there,” said Téa.

“Yeah, sure,” said Todd.

“Ah, there’s one more thing. It won’t take long,” spoke up Dr. Hart.

“Oh? What?” asked Todd.

“Upon request from the court, I’ve been ordered to conduct the amino on Miss Braxton and obtain blood samples from you and Kevin Buchanan to compare with the amino sample. Now, I’ve all ready gotten Kevin’s sample and I’m scheduled to conduct the amino tomorrow. Now would be a good time to obtain your sample,” explained Dr. Hart.

Todd’s face dropped and he looked at Téa. Téa nodded her head, “Let’s just get this over with Todd.”

“Yeah, sure,” said Todd. He held out his arm, “Draw away Doc.”

Dr. Hart grinned, “Ah, not here. Follow me into my exam room.”

Todd nodded his head and turned to Téa, “Want to hold my hand? I’m not good with needles.”

Téa grinned and followed Todd into the exam room.

The courthouse…

Téa and Todd made their way through the crowds of people and media at the courthouse. Todd rubbed his arm. Finally they got to the courtroom and went inside. Sam saw them walk in and went up to them.

“You guys looked refreshed. And tan. Very tan,” remarked Sam.

“Gezz, thanks,” said Todd.

“Téa, Bobby wants you to sit at the table as the jury reads the verdict,” said Sam.

“I’d be honored,” said Téa.

“I’ll just sit behind you guys – rubbing my arm,” muttered Todd feeling a little left out.

“Todd, maybe you should stop rubbing your arm. You’ll only irritate it more,” said Téa.

Sam raised an inquisitive eyebrow. Todd frowned.

The judge walked in and banged the gavel. Sam and Téa took their seats at the defendant table. The bailiff escorted Bobby in. Bobby smiled at Sam and Téa as he sat down between them. Téa took Bobby’s hand and squeezed it. Todd noticed and frowned.

The jury was escorted in and took their seats.

“Madam forewoman, has the jury reached a verdict?” asked the judge.

“We have,” said the forewoman standing up.

The bailiff took the verdict to the judge who reviewed it and handed it back to the bailiff. The bailiff gave it back to the forewoman.

“Will the defendant please rise?” instructed the judge.

Sam, Bobby, and Téa stood up.

“Will Madam forewoman please read the verdict,” instructed the judge.

“In the case of the Commonwealth vs Robert Patino, we the jury…find the defendant…not guilty…of all charges…”

The courtroom exploded in a rush of cheers and Bobby, Sam, and Téa exchanged warm affectionate hugs.

Why did it bother Todd so much to see Téa with other men when he knew – he knew – he was the one?

Bellevue…

Kevin Buchanan walked into the rec room escorted by Fiona Braxton’s therapist. They discussed Fiona’s progress…or lack thereof…and Kevin approached Fiona as her doctor left.

Fiona was working by a window. She was taking photographs - working on making a collage.

“Fiona.”

She glanced over her shoulder, “Kevin.”

“What are the pictures of?” asked Kevin.

“The facility grounds,” replied Fiona.

Kevin noticed she was showing and wore maternity clothes.

“I’ll be with you tomorrow…when the amino is conducted, if you want,” said Kevin putting his hands in his pockets.

“You know Kevin, I’m not as crazy as you think – or Dr. “Freud” thinks I am. I don’t approve of this amino. I could miscarry you know,” said Fiona turning to face him crossing her arms.

“I know the risks,” said Kevin.

Fiona gave him a photograph, “See – see – this photograph? This is a talent I will always have. It will always be there for me.”

“But what about this?” asked Kevin pointing to his head, “What about your common sense? When it comes to Todd Manning you act strange…”

“This is Todd Manning’s child,” insisted Fiona.

“You won’t even entertain the thought this child could be mine, will you? And I know I’ve slept with you…” spat out Kevin, “And if that child is mine I will take responsibility for it.”

Fiona sneered at Kevin, “What you are doing…having the court order this amino is wrong. It could hurt the baby. I would never hurt a child.”

“It’s what I have to do to get answers Fiona since you’re…up here,” said Kevin again pointing to his head and twirling his finger around.

“You’re a dick Kevin,” said Fiona.

“You’re crazy Fiona,” said Kevin.

“Go away,” said Fiona returning to her collage.

“I’ll be there tomorrow at the amino. You can count on that…” said Kevin. He watched her for a bit before walking out.

Llanfair…

Todd and Téa walked into Llanfair and the den. Viki and Jessica were feeding the twins. Jessie put down her bottle and looked up.

“Hey, Viki – Jess,” said Todd smiling as he rubbed his arm. He sat down next to Viki. Viki was still feeding her twin, Taylor.

“How are the twins?” asked Téa smiling.

“They’re fine Téa. A little hungry,” said Viki smiling at Todd and Téa, “Trevor and Starr are in the playroom. So, what did Dr. Hart say?”

Todd grinned at Viki, “They’re fine. Tyler doesn’t have it and Taylor’s a carrier.”

“That’s great Todd,” said Viki. Todd peered over her shoulder and watched Viki feed Taylor her bottle.

“Urp,” came a sound from Jessie’s twin, Tyler.

“I think he’s got to burp,” said Jessie looking up at Téa.

“Here, I’ll burp him,” said Téa. She put a cloth over her shoulder and picked up Tyler staring into his eyes, “You’re a lucky boy – you need to thank your daddy…” whispered Téa.

Tyler girggled and slapped his hands together, “Urp.”

“O.k., o.k., I get the hint…” said Téa gently placing him on her shoulder and lightly tapping his back.

Todd grinned at his wife as she burped Tyler.

“Hey – Mom!” came a voice. Kevin waltzed into the den, “Oh Todd. Téa.”

“Kevin!” said Todd quickly standing up, “I gave blood today.”

“Well, I just came from visiting Fiona in Bellevue…” said Kevin.

“Urp. Urp.” said Tyler.

“That’s it Tyler,” said Téa gently as she turned to face Kevin.

“And?” said Todd sarcastically.

“She’s not as crazy as you think. She still insists you’re the father…” said Kevin.

“Ulp…” Tyler spit up on the cloth. Téa could feel the tension in Tyler’s little body drain away. She handed Tyler back to Jessie and put the cloth down in his diaper bag.

Todd frowned, “Whatever. Soon the results will be in and you’ll discover you’re a father again… so you better practice changing diapers…and burping babies…”

Téa walked out onto Viki’s patio to get some air.

“Todd! Kevin!” said Viki standing up, careful since she was still feeding Taylor, “That’s enough. Trevor and Starr are in the next room and they don’t need to hear this.”

Kevin stormed out.

Todd looked around, “Where’s Téa?”

“She went onto the patio…” said Jessie. Todd turned around and trotted out onto the patio. Téa was over looking the garden, her back to him, her arms crossed…lost in thought…

“You think it’s possible, don’t you? That I could be the father of Fiona’s kid…” whispered Todd.

“It’s so easy to disturb a thought with a whisper…” muttered Téa.

“Huh? What?” said Todd walking up behind her.

Téa turned around and faced Todd, “Todd, you treat my love like a careless memory…in Puerto Rico you basked in my love – you believed in it. My love tells me you didn’t father that child, yet you insist I have doubts about that. I have no doubts. I know you didn’t father that child. Right now – right now – you carelessly throw my love aside…wanting to believe I doubt you when I don’t…” said Téa sadly, “Why are you so insecure with my love?”

Todd was taken aback. Her words shocked him. He loved her! “Téa…your love…I believe in it – I do…” whispered Todd placing his hands on her arms drawing her into him, “I would never be careless with your love…”

“So you say Manning,” whispered Téa.

Todd wrinkled his brow and leaned over kissing her – savoring her lips… “I swear to you Téa – I would never be careless with your love,” said Todd firmly.

“Then don’t doubt it. I believe you. I know how you feel about me – I believe in the love you have for me…” whispered Téa.

“Yeah…” was all Todd could say. He took her into his arms and held her tight.
